Health/Life Safety and Compliance

Health/Life Safety

The Illinois Administrative Code and the School Code of Illinois require that the Regional Offices of Education regularly visit schools for Health/Life Safety inspections and to ensure they meet minimum health and safety standards under state law. When schools remodel or build new buildings, or use temporary classroom units, we’re there to ensure they are safe for students and teachers.

Compliance

The Illinois State Board of Education works with the Regional Offices of Education to monitor school district compliance with the School Code and other applicable statutes/rules and assigns recognition status levels to schools and districts. The Peoria County Regional Office visits all school districts each year to review policies, programs for accountability, and personnel files. Financial records, school board minutes, policies, and procedures are also reviewed to verify that the schools are in alignment and in “compliance” with various school codes tested each year.
