Educator Wellness was the focus of today's professional learning for educators from ROE's 48 and 53! We had a great time and learned ways to help ourselves and our students! Thanks to Angie Swearingian for sharing her knowledge and resources with us. Thanks also, to Jaime Darwish and Grand Canyon University for providing lunch and information about GCUs degree opportunities and to the REACH/SEL Hubs for funding our day. Here are some pictures of the end of the year celebration at Norwood Primary School. Trudy Schaffner, our Director of Truancy and McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program, worked with Norwood this semester on a school-wide multi-tier intervention to absenteeism.
From January through May, there was a monthly class drawing for students who achieved 90% or better for attendance. Those names were then put into a year end drawing for a $50 gas/grocery card for their families. Students who were referred to Project Target were monitored weekly, and small incentives were earned for each week of perfect attendance.
Three students at Norwood Primary had perfect attendance. They were awarded certificates and a McDonald's gift card. Each of the students who had been referred to Project Target that achieved 90% or higher attendance also received an award certificate, and everyone in the school who achieved 90% or higher for the last quarter enjoyed an ice cream or popsicle treat. It was a great day to award these student's hard work and achievement in attendance!

@PeoriaROE48 was excited to be at Quest High School on Friday! Educators ended a year-long professional development centered on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Staff engaged in professional learning about embedding equitable practices into the classroom and school community and created action plans for implementation based on the year long professional development. It has been a pleasure working with the Quest staff during the 2022 - 2023 school year.

As Teacher Appreciation week comes to a close, I wanted to give a shout-out to my favorite teacher: Mary Neamon. Mrs. Neamon was my High School Spanish teacher and our class sponsor. She gently guided class officers through all of the big events we were responsible for: fund raising for prom our Sophomore year, planning and running Prom and the after-party (Casino night in the cafeteria!) my Junior year, graduation, and then giving the gift to the school from the Seniors.
I took Spanish with her my Junior and Senior years, and I always felt supported and encouraged even when I wasn’t the best in my pronunciations and speaking. And I absolutely loved walking in her classroom at the end of the school day to plan our next thing or just say hi! Her smile always greeted me warmly and she always wanted to hear about our day no matter how busy she might be. I always tried to stop in and see her anytime I was back in my hometown in southern Colorado. Even now we are Facebook friends, and I appreciate being able to see her retired life in California and still share my life events with her. When you need a model for an amazing teacher who creates a positive environment in which to learn and feel supported, look to Mrs. Mary Neamon!
